Experience + Innovation

Our approach to overcoming modern machining challenges.

Over the course of the last decade there have been a number of incredible advances in manufacturing methods.  As a result the demand for more complex parts has steadily increased.  To meet this demand we decided to move into the purchase of our first 5-axis milling machine.  Within months we realized that this was only the beginning.  The improvements in accuracy, the reduction in setups and in production time, and the ability to create complex geometries had opened a door for us to better serve our customers.

From "No Quote" to Ahead of Schedule

How we helped a customer achieve their goal despite difficult tolerances.

A customer came to us with an exceptionally difficult challenge: machining stainless-steel hemispheres with .025” wall thickness and tolerances—including ±.001” diametral size, .002” internal and external spherical profile, and a .001” positional tolerance between the internal and external spheres. The customer turned to us after other shops had simply “no-quoted” the project.

We took the time to understand their functional requirements and delivery goals, then developed a strategy tailored to the part’s unique challenges. Using vacuum fixturing, careful machining, and continuous in-process CMM inspection, we delivered parts that met every spec – 8 weeks ahead of schedule.

By saying yes when others said no, we helped our customer move forward with confidence and speed.

How we helped a client regain their project schedule.

A client approached us with a project he needed in a hurry.  Another shop had made these parts for the client in the past, but was currently unable to deliver on time.  The client had a fixed deadline as he was sending these parts to another facility for testing and installation.  We met with the client to ascertain the details of his project as well as communicate our anticipated internal obstacles.  The only major items to consider were our existing backlog of work and the cosmetic finish requirements of the project.  We decided to tackle the project and promptly ordered the necessary items to get started.  Due to the lead time of the purchased material we were able to clear enough of our existing work log to free up the capacity to produce these parts for our client on time.  With careful programming and the right order of operations we were also able to exceed the expectations for cosmetic finish requirements.  Our client was excited to have his project back on schedule as well as seeing the precision and care of our processes displayed in his pieces.

All in One

An assembly with accuracy problems is better as a single piece.

A client approached us with an issue involving an assembly they had in use.  This assembly was a critical piece of a larger system at their facility and was a constant struggle for them.  Because it was two pieces, they struggled with alignment of their diagnostic equipment.  Together we went over the challenges of making their assembly a single piece; what features were critical, and what features could be adjusted to make their project a reality.  We then developed a machining strategy and set to work.  With some innovative fixturing, and the use of sacrificial features for precise location checking, we were able to produce our client’s dream part.

Once our client installed the part in their facility we received a phone call with their elated thanks and an e-mail full of photos showing how well everything fit together.
